Welcome to the holy city Sitamarhi.
History of Sitamarhi dates back to Tretayug which lasted 12,96,000 years. Tretayug saw three avatars of Lord Vishnu, Shri Vamana, Shri Parashuram, Shri Ram. Shri Ram, known for his ideals and greatness was married to Maa Sita. Maa Sita had appeared from a field when Raja Janak was ploughing it. The field was located in the erstwhile province of Mithila and village of Sulakshanapuri, modernly known as Sitamarhi.
Though it has been spread that Sitamarhi has nothing of Archaeological interest, but in the year 2003 it was found that Haleshwar sthan, the place from where Raja Janak had started ploughing the field had an ancient Shiv Temple. The stones in the GarbhGriha had stones dating to 3rd century B.C. Sitamarhi is a place of several unexplored archaeological facts.
With several popular temples around the district, worldwide famous temple includes Maa Janki Janmabhumi, Punaura Dham ,Maa Janki Mandir, Panthpaakar and Haleshwar sthan. These places of religious importance attract huge visitors from around the country an globe.
Sitamarhi.org welcomes all of you to the place of religious and archaeological importance. Hope you visit this pious and meditating place once in your lifetime.
